Cauvery Calling Movement to hold training program for pepper cultivation in coimbatore

Cauvery Calling Movement will organise

a comprehensive Mega-training program focusing on the potential to cultivate pepper in the plains on April 28 at Coimbatore, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore.

Thiru. Meyyanathan Siva V, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change will inaugurate the program in Pudukkottai.

Addressing the media, the field coordinator of the Cauvery Calling Movement, Shri. Thamizhmaaran said:

“Most farmers think that pepper cultivation can only be done in hilly areas. However, through our field experience, we have found that pepper cultivation can be profitable in the plains as well.

Pioneer farmers in Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai districts have been successfully cultivating pepper in the plains for many years. Some farmers are earning an annual income of Rs. 6 lakh per acre from pepper alone. No other intercrop can yield such high profits. Also, some farmers are exporting to foreign countries.

The Deputy Director of the Aromatic Crops Board of India in Bodinayakkannur, Shri. Simanta Saikia, Principal Scientist at ICAR - IISR Karnataka, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, and pioneer farmers who have patented their pepper varieties, Mr. DD Thomas, and KV George, will participate in the training program as speakers, among many others.

For more information and registration contact 94425 90081 or 94425 90079. The program in Coimbatore will take place in Pollachi, hosted on the natural farm of a pioneer farmer Shri. Valluvan," he added.
