Central team conducts study on effects of heavy rains in Tiruvannamalai

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team conducted an on-site study in Tiruvannamalai district to evaluate the damage caused by heavy rains brought by Cyclone Fengal. The team, accompanied by District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian, visited various affected areas on December 10 to assess the impact on infrastructure and agriculture.
The team included Saravanan, Director of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Dhanapalan Kumaran, Engineer from the Ministry of Highways and Road Transport, and KM Balaji from the Ministry of Rural Development, New Delhi.
Key inspections included: Landslide Site: The team examined the landslide-affected areas in VOC Nagar, Tiruvannamalai Municipality. Damaged Roads: Roads under the highway department in Sampandanur village, Chinna Kangeyanur Panchayat, were assessed. Crop Loss: The team reviewed agricultural damage in Konalur Panchayat, Kilpennathur circle, including paddy fields and horticultural crops like cassava, sambangi flowers, and sugarcane.
The inspections aimed to document the extent of the destruction and provide inputs for relief and rehabilitation measures.
The event was attended by District Revenue Officer Iram Pradeepan, District Rural Development Agency Project Director Dr. Mani, and officials from various government departments.
