Sports Minister laid foundation for a Rs 40 cr CETP for textile units at Perundurai SIPCOT. Its value has now risen to Rs 56 crore. Tenders will soon be issued for electing the CETP shortly, said Housing Minister S Muthuswamy.
He inaugurated the dredging work of 8 streams under the Erode Corporation in Sunnambu Odai area of Erode on Thursday. Then he said: Due to the rainy season, the work is being carried out on behalf of the Olirum Erode and the Corporation for the safety of the people. 30 kilometers of streams will be cleaned. Industries around the streams should stop discharging sewage into streams. If not, strict action will be taken. An old CETP at Perundurai Sipcot and a CETP for tanneries will soon be improved there. DMK election promise to set up a CETP in Erode Corporation will be studied as the textile process units are in different places. The Chief Minister announced a Rs 30 crore project to set up a treatment plant to prevent sewage from the Erode Corporation from entering the Cauvery River.
A plan is being prepared for that. In the previous regime a plant was set up in Ashokapuram area to cleanse the drainage water of Pichaikaran Pallam canal and use the treated waste for industries. The project has idle now. It will be investigated soon. A massive scheme to collect empty bottles from TASMAC bars is being implemented in nine districts.
The work will be taken across Tamil Nadu by November. For this, the difficulties faced by liquor shop workers will be investigated and action will be taken. Studies are on to use tetra packs in liquor sales. Corporation Mayor Nagaratnam Subramaniam, Deputy Mayor Selvaraj, Commissioner Manish, Chief Engineer Vijayakumar and other senior officials were present.
