Change of address in Aadhaar: New Facility is welcome

Change of address in Aadhaar: New Facility is welcome

An important notification to simplify the process of updating address in Aadhaar card has been issued. So far everyone has to submit a certificate in their name to update their Aadhaar address. Now to change Aadhaar address it is enough to submit a certificate in the name of head of family. If it is not correct then the head of the family should submit the identity certificate in the manner specified.

The Unique Identification Number Authority of India has introduced a system for residents to change their Aadhaar address through the website with the consent of the head of the family. Resident relatives i.e. children, spouses and parents who do not have sufficient documents in their name to change address in Aadhaar card can use this new system.

Applicants can apply by submitting documents such as their names, marks certificate, ration card and marriage certificate as proof of relationship between the applicant and the head of the family. In the absence of the proof of the above relationship, a self-certificate approved by the head of the family in the prescribed format issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India can be used.

One can use this option on website when changing address through website. A fee of Rs 50 will be charged for using this service. A SMS will be sent to the head of the family along with the payment. Then within 30 days the head of the family has to give his consent on the above mentioned website. It has been informed that if the head of the family rejects it, the fee paid by the applicant will not be refunded.

Until now, applicants were asking to change their address in Aadhaar. Now only the consent of the head of the family is enough. This new requirment has gained acceptance among the public. This new arrangement by the Central Government Unique Identification Number Commission is commendable!
