Chennai among top 3 cities for job opportunities for freshers: Report by Apna.co

With the job market getting back on its hiring spree, especially for the rising workforce, the year 2022 saw an increasing demand for various job roles among freshers across the country. Apna.co - India's largest job and professional networking platform, recorded a 2.5x increase in job applications from freshers in Tamil Nadu in 2022. 

Despite the massive layoffs the world over, India’s robust economic momentum and resiliency are well reflected in the growth in hiring numbers. Organizations across the country have been demanding fresh graduates to build their businesses with new perceptions and ideas. According to Apna, cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai saw increased demand for job opportunities for freshers in various roles like business development, telecalling, and field sales. 

In 2022, Chennai alone received more  than 2 million job applications from freshers.  The state also saw more than 1 million new users (210 percent YoY increase) registering on Apna in 2022 vis-a-vis 2021. Furthermore, women in the state are seizing all opportunities and are not much behind their male counterparts.

Interestingly, in 2022, apna also recorded 1.8 million job applications from women, a 3x increase in participation compared to last year. Women across the state expressed interest in a variety of positions, including teacher, human resources, accountant, and information technology. Commenting on the increase in demand for freshers from the state, Manas Singh, Chief Business Officer, apna.co, said, 

"There was a time when companies used to prefer professionals with reasonable work experience. 
This year, we saw a paradigm shift in such an approach as more and more companies are now hiring freshers, because of their readiness to learn new skills and their adaptability, professionalism, and zeal. Tamil Nadu, for instance, witnessed an exponential rise in demand for job roles for freshers." 

Additionally, the state also witnessed a more than 138 percent increase in job postings by various companies this year, making the state an opportunity hub.  Top companies like Reliance Jio, Innovosource, Airtel, Zepto, and Just Dial have partnered with Apna to build their workforce in Tamil Nadu, bringing the total count of employers on the platform to 10,000, a 2x increase than last year.
