Citizen's Voice Coimbatore appealed to the District Collector Dr. G.S. Sameeran, Coimbatore Corporation.
Commissioner, Thiru. M. Prathap, DSP Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Coimbatore to ensure neat city instead of smart city.
In their letter to them, the NGO president C.M. Jayaraman and secretary V.A.Shanmugham said ''We have been receiving many complaints about ‘raids’ by Flying Squads – from Weights & Measures, Food Safety etc.- at eateries and sweet meat shops at D B Road, Raja Street, Gandhipuram, R S Puram, Race Course etc., under the guise of plastic eradication and food safety, particularly during this festive season of Diwali.
Many a times these ‘raids’ are held with the intention of collecting ‘mamools’ to fatten the pockets of the authorities.
The municipal staff conveniently forget their bounden duty of cleaning the accumulated garbage (Eg. Balaji Nagar and Thiruvalluvar Nagar connecting 80 ft. Road) through out the city and maintain the roads properly.
As public servants they may be reminded to refrain from such ‘raids’ and extortion which is tantamount to corruption / bribery and receipt of illegal grafts. The Department of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption should remind all through media prohibiting the practice of ‘raid’ for the purpose of extortion and collecting ‘mamools’, they pleaded.
