City Based Autism Center organised Autism awareness program

Sage Kids, a therapeutic centre for Autism and other Neuro-developmental Disabilities, situated in Peelamedu, Coimbatore in association with the Rotary Club, Coimbatore City, Nirmala College (Autonomous) for Women and Indian Academy for Paediatricians, Coimbatore Chapter organized a cultural and thematic fete on  April 6 at the Lakshmi Mills – Urban Centre, Coimbatore to spread awareness about autism and autistic children.

Mrs. Sumaiya Gerard, psychologist and Managing Director of SAGE KIDS spoke about the necessity for creating awareness about Autism. Today one among a hundred children are affected by autism. She spoke about the importance of detecting the traces of autism early. Early detection would help us treat the children easily. She also listed out the symptoms with which we could detect the traces of autism. 

Dr. Lakshmi Shanthi, President, Coimbatore chapter of Indian Academy of paediatricians and Dr. Sr. Mary Fabiola, Principal, Nirmala College for women also addressed. Autistic children from Thoothukudi Holy Cross Pearls Special School and Nirmala College students staged dance programmes. Karpagam Allied Health Sciences students performed a skit on autism awareness.

Zee TV anchor Tom Frank, Cine actor Sankar, Folk artistes Arokiam and Subash and Dr. Senthil also staged performances. Dr. Gerard Vinodh, Founder, Sage Health Foundation proposed a vote of thanks.

Rotarians  Kaneshan, Prashanth, Senthil kumar, Rosary Mary, formerly Director, Dept. of Youth Welfare, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and  Reshma, psychologist distributed the prizes to the children.
