CM Stalin promises bonuses worth Rs. 8400 and Rs. 16800 for government employees

Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that category C and D employees working in government public sector enterprises (PSUs) will receive up to 20% additional pay and gratuity. This decision aims to reward their contributions to Tamil Nadu's growing industries.
Tamil Nadu is a leader in sectors like manufacturing, engineering, pharmaceuticals, garments, technology, and services, with the highest number of factories and workers. The state's skilled labour force, combined with government initiatives, has positioned Tamil Nadu as a key manufacturing hub, on track to becoming a US$1 trillion economy by 2030.
Recognising the vital role workers play in driving production and economic growth, Chief Minister Stalin issued this order. Under the amended Bonus Act of 2015, the salary ceiling for superannuation has been increased to Rs. 21,000, with the monthly salary ceiling for calculating excess pay set at Rs. 7,000.
For the 2023-24 financial year, category C and D workers in profit-making PSUs will receive 8.33% in excess pay and 11.67% in gratuity, totaling 20%. These include employees of Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Tamil Nadu Consumer Goods Trading Corporation, and Tamil Nadu Milk Producers' Co-Operative.
For PSUs without a surplus, category C and D employees will receive 8.33% excess pay and 1.67% gratuity, totaling 10%. Workers in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Chennai Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and Tamil Nadu Drinking Water and Drainage Board will also receive 8.33% excess pay, with temporary workers in Tamil Nadu Consumer Goods Trading Corporation receiving an additional Rs. 3,000 as gratuity.
As a result, permanent workers eligible for superannuation will receive a minimum bonus of Rs. 8,400 and a maximum of Rs. 16,800. In total, 2.75 lakh PSU employees will benefit, with the government allocating Rs. 369 crores for bonuses and gratuities. Separate orders will be issued for employees in cooperative organisations.
This initiative will motivate PSU employees, allowing them to celebrate the upcoming festive season with greater joy and enthusiasm.
