Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited Vaikom, Kerala, to inaugurate the renovated Periyar Memorial on December 12.
The memorial honors Periyar EV Ramasamy's role in the historic temple entry protest in Vaikom, where he championed social justice and equality. Originally opened in 1994, the memorial underwent extensive renovations costing Rs. 8.14 crore as directed by CM Stalin.
The refurbished memorial includes a statue of Periyar, a permanent exhibition hall chronicling his life, a library, a visitor dome, and a children's park. These additions aim to celebrate Periyar’s legacy and inspire future generations.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will preside over the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the collaborative spirit between Tamil Nadu and Kerala in honouring social reformers.
CM Stalin arrived in Kerala earlier in the day, landing at Nedumbassery Airport in Kochi before traveling to Kottayam.
He received a warm traditional Kerala-style welcome, complete with a grand reception and chenda melam, led by Kerala State DMK Organiser KR Murugesan.
