CM visits Saveetha hospital to see the child underwent Surgery

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Thiru. M. K. Stalin visited Saveetha Medical College on August 29 and interacted with a child who underwent the rare Parry Romberg free flap resconstruction surgery the hospital.
The nine year old girl child had developed deformity on one side of her face when she was about 3 ½ years old. Gradually started losing bulk in the right side of her face.

The progression went on till all the soft tissue from the right side of her face was lost. Called as Parry Romberg Syndrome, it is also known as Progressive Hemifacial Atrophy and ‘en coup de sabre’ deformity. She had become the youngest with the most severe deformity ever reported in the country, according to a press release from the institution.

A panel of specialists led by Prof RVM Surya Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Saveetha Medical College and Hospitals, conducted surgery that involved providing her with vascularised free soft tissue transfer considering the severity of the deformity and the need to improve vascularity of the region, as she is still in her growing phase. She was shifted to a regular ward after ensuring her stability . She will be discharged from the hospital in a week’s time after removing the stitched and closely monitored.
