Coimbatore City Police and Park Institutions set world record for drug abuse pledges

In a remarkable feat aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse among college students, the Coimbatore City Police and Park Institutions joined forces to create a World Record for the highest number of digital pledges against drug abuse. Their efforts garnered an impressive 1,12,375 pledges out of 1,37,294 received, earning them recognition from the World Records Union. The official certification of this achievement took place on February 6th at Park Institutions campus.
The campaign, launched on June 26th, 2023, the International Day Against Drug Abuse, saw enthusiastic participation from 180 colleges across the Coimbatore district. With the digital pledge platform opening on September 12th, 2023, the initiative gained momentum, with pledges crossing the 1 lakh mark by December 2023.
To acknowledge the commendable efforts of participating colleges, city police officials honoured them at a ceremony. Recognising the crucial role students can play in sustaining these efforts, the initiative will induct 1,000 select students as “Drug Free Kovai Ambassadors.” These ambassadors will be responsible for raising awareness and monitoring drug use within their respective colleges. Additionally, a dedicated helpline number will be provided to offer support and guidance.
