District collector Pavankumar K Giriyappanavar on Tuesday chaired a review meeting with all departmental officers on the precautionary measures to be taken ahead of southwest monsoon, at his office in the city. District revenue officer M Sharmila, personal assistant to the collector (general) Niraimathi, Pollachi sub-collector Viswanathan, revenue divisional officer (south) Ramkumar, Tahsildar (disaster management) Meghala, and other officials attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the collector said that various measures are being taken by the district administration to prevent natural disasters that may occur during the monsoon. Last year, the southwest monsoon in the district received an average rainfall of 884.99 mm and the northeast monsoon received an average rainfall of 487.32 mm.
“The flood control rooms in the offices of the sub-collector/revenue divisional officer and tahsildar should be operational 24/7 with appropriate staff.
The staff should be deployed on a rotational basis so that they are on duty 24 hours a day. Subordinate officers should immediately report the news received regarding the flood and other damages and the details of the actions taken to the toll-free Number 1077 in the district collectorate,” the collector said. Sub-collectors/revenue divisional officers and tahsildars should also select marriage halls, schools and catering establishments as safety centers in their areas and form separate teams to accommodate the flood affected persons and meet their essential needs, he added.
