Coimbatore Collector kick-starts plantation drive

District collector Pavankumar K Giriyappanavar on Wednesday kick-started the sapling plantation programme at KRK Nagar in the west zone of the corporation limit in the presence of corporation commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran. 

The city corporation has been planting and maintaining plants to increase the green cover in its limit. As a part of it, the civic body has planned to plant about 2000 saplings in wards 36, 37, 38, 39, and 40. The event was kick-started by the district collector at KRK Nagar.

 Traditional and herbal plants like Vembu, Vagai, and Marudham would be planted during the drive. Corporation commissioner kick-started the plantation work at Gayathri Garden in ward 39. Deputy mayor Vetriselvan, west zone chairman Deivanai Tamilmarai, assistant commissioner Durai Murugan, assistant executive engineer Savitha, councilors Padmavathi, and Lakshmi Balakrishnan, ZSO Veeran, assistant engineers Vimala, Muralidharan, and Rajesh Venugopal, Sanitary inspectors Salaith, and Rajendran, and other officials attended the event.
