A farmers' grievance redressal meeting was held on Friday at the Coimbatore District Collectorate under the chairmanship of District Collector Mr. Pavankumar K. Kiriyappanavar.
The meeting was attended by DRO Dr. M. Sharmila, Zonal Registrar of Cooperative Societies Mr. Alagiri, Joint Director (Agriculture) Mrs. Krishnaveni, Personal Assistant to the District Collector (Agriculture) Mr. Anandakumar, Deputy Director (Horticulture) Mr. Siddharthan, and many government department officials and farmers.
In order to create awareness among the farmers, a concept show was also set up in by the Agriculture Department on summer vegetable cultivation and crop protection methods by the Horticulture Department, Solar drier by the Agricultural Engineering Department, and two farmer producer companies by the Agribusiness and Marketing Department regarding value-added products.
After that, the farmers submitted their petitions to the Collector.
The farmers requested that the government provide subsidies through government schemes to prevent the whitefly and Kerala root rot attacks that are currently causing great damage to coconuts, desilt ponds and puddles through the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, distribute coconut oil at fair price shops, etc.
