Coimbatore Collector visits voter enrolment camp at Hindustan College

The District Election Officer and Coimbatore District Collector, Mr. Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, I.A.S., visited a special camp organised to encourage youth enrolment in the voter list at Hindustan Arts and Science College, Nava India, under the 121-Singanallur Assembly Constituency, on Tuesday.
The event witnessed the participation of Hindustan Arts and Science College Trustee Mrs. Saraswathi Kannaiyan, Principal Dr. Ponnusamy, Deputy Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation Mrs. Sultana, Assistant Commissioner (East Zone) Mr. Muthusamy, Tahsildar (South) Mr. Mohammed Sayyub, and a large number of students.
Students present at the camp took the “Voters’ Pledge” under the leadership of the District Collector. They also held banners with slogans to spread awareness on the importance of voter registration among first-time voters.
Addressing the gathering, Collector Mr. Giriyappanavar said that the district administration is taking steps to ensure that every student who has completed 18 years of age is included in the electoral roll.
“By registering through this camp, you will all be exercising your right to vote for the first time in the forthcoming elections. Every vote is valuable and makes a difference,” he said.
He further emphasised that students can apply online to add their names to the voter list.
Those studying in Coimbatore but hailing from other districts can register in their home constituencies through the camps organised here. “It is the responsibility of every student to ensure that their names are included in the electoral roll without fail,” the Collector added.
As part of the voter awareness drive titled ‘Enrolling All Youth in the Voter List’, the Coimbatore district administration is conducting a series of programmes, including special enrolment camps, competitions, human chains, and short awareness plays.
On Tuesday, similar special camps were organised in 12 colleges across various assembly constituencies, including Kumaraguru Technical College (Kavandampalayam), Karpagam University (Kinathukadavu), Christ the King Engineering College (Metupalayam), KPR Arts and Science College (Sulur), Government Engineering College (Coimbatore North), Sri Krishna Engineering College (Thondamuthur), Nirmala Arts and Science College (Coimbatore South), Dr. Mahalingam Engineering College (Pollachi), and Valparai Government Arts and Science College.
Senior officers of DRO rank have been deputed to monitor each constituency and ensure 100 percent enrolment of eligible young voters. Camps will continue until the enrolment target is fully achieved.
