Coimbatore Sanitation workers arrested for protest demanding Diwali bonus

Coimbatore Sanitation workers arrested for protest demanding Diwali bonus

Contract sanitation workers in Coimbatore staged a sit-in protest within the Coimbatore Corporation premises, demanding a Diwali bonus equivalent to one month's salary.
The workers, who had been given bonuses of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 2,500, insisted on receiving a more substantial bonus. The protest was organised by the Power Voice Federation.
Despite discussions with the Deputy Commissioner of Coimbatore, no resolution was reached. Over 80 sanitation workers returned to the Corporation office for the third consecutive day, continuing their protest. The police, however, denied them entry and installed a temporary iron gate at the office entrance, which led to the protesters raising slogans of condemnation.
The protest also disrupted traffic in front of the Corporation office, creating a tense atmosphere for a brief period.
