Coimbatore to get a new zoo

Nearly 400 animals belonging to 40 species including reptiles, birds, and mammals are being maintained at the Corporation owned VOC Zoological Park next to Nehru Stadium in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore.

VOC Zoological Park was a common recreational site for the people of Coimbatore. The Union Zoological Authority has recently revoked the accreditation of the zoo, after which the zoo was closed. This has made the people of Coimbatore very worried.

In this context, the Corporation has announced that a new zoo with new features will be constructed in Coimbatore. The state-of-the-art zoo will be located on a 25-acre corporation site on the prison grounds on Nanjappa Road in Coimbatore.

According to a corporation official, "The work of preparing a detailed project report on the construction of this new zoo will be completed soon. Then the next steps will be taken.”
