College Day Celebrations at City College

The College Day Celebrations of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women (PSGRKCW) was held today. While Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Nandini Rangaswamy, Chairperson of the college, Dr. Meena,Principal, Dr. N. Yesodha Devi, Secretary and Ms. D. Aarthi, President of the student’s forum were also present on the occasion.

The Chief Guest, Dr.Geethalakshmi in her special address said that educating girls is very important and the college has been successfully taking this mission forward. She commended the institution for being ranked 4th in NIRF rankings.  She conveyed her hearty congratulations to the management, staff and students for the recognition.

Dr.Geethalakshmi during her address said that with around 800 faculty and 8000 students, the college has a healthy teacher-student ratio of 1:20. She added that teachers are the mentors who guide the students in the perfect way.

Continuing further she mentioned that gone are the days of mere bookish knowledge and giving exams. She urged students to get some skill based education, at this stage which should be very productive for their future.

Dr. Geethalakshmi stated that India is blessed with a young population and that every country is looking up to us for best talents. She added that if one were to look at any innovation around the world, there would be at least one Indian brain associated with the project, which is a matter of pride for the country. 

Dr. Geethalakshmi pointed out that the sky is the limit for the students, with lots of opportunities available. She called upon the students to take initiatives and interest, which will help them flourish in their life. 

Dr. Meena read out the annual report of the college on the occasion.

Earlier Dr. Nandini Rangaswamy delivering the welcome address said that in 2024 the college was commemorating the birth anniversary of its visionary founder Shrimati G. Chandrakanthi with a series of innovative and diverse events, both academic and co-curricular. She said that the profound vision of the founders – Shri. Govindarajulu and Shrimati. Chandrakanthi Govindarajulu has truly come to fruition through the dedicated efforts of the faculty and students.

She added that the event marks the culmination of all the activities of the students’ forum for the academic year. She appreciated the dedicated efforts of the deans, directors, faculty and students for their valuable contributions, meticulous planning and effective execution of the various activities through the year.

The college magazine – ‘Shescape’, IQAC newsletter and newsletters of all the centres and cluster departments were released on the occasion by Dr. Geethalakshmi.

A total of 56 students were selected on the basis of academic proficiency and co-curricular excellence and presented awards during the event. The alumni association of the college presented the ‘Best Outgoing Students’ award for 2023-24. The ‘Best Faculty’ and ‘Best Department’ awards were also presented on the occasion.
