Congress leaders did not raise strong protest over release of Perarivalan, one among the convicts of former PM Rajiv Gandhi assassination case only because of getting one RS MP seat from DMK, charged TMC youth wing state president M Yuvaraja.
In a statement, he said TNCC president KS Alagiri staged stir for namesake against release of Perarivalan but continued his tie up with the parties which celebrated his release. It indicated Congress leaders gave priority to MP and MLA posts than strongly condemning the release. Only one MP mildly flayed the release but others did not comment on the release.
It questioned their loyalty to Nehru family. Their stand vindicated they played a drama for the sake of the benefit of 18 MLAs and 8 MPs. But, Congress cadres question why the alliance is being continued with the parties which rejoice over the release of him.
VCK leader Thirumavalavan himself justified the CM's action of hugging him by stating that the CM had done so only because of that the SC released him. It seemed that Congress senior leaders EVKS Elangovan, PeterAlphonse, KV Thangabalu, P Chidambaram, Mani Shankar Ayyar and Krishnasamy, were mum in the issue only because of getting one RS MP seat allotted by DMK or for their own benefit.
Perhaps, they may fear that if the tie up with DMK breaks down, Congress will lose its importance in the state as in other states. But, true Congress cadres alone are not able to forget or forgive Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, he said.
