President of Tamilnadu Congress Committee KS Alagiri has on Monday arrived in Coimbatore to kickstart the rally by foot from Coimbatore to Chennai condemning the fuel price hike.
A total of 56 people from Coimbatore on behalf of the Congress party are marching for 18 days from Coimbatore to Chennai demanding control of petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices and the reduction of GST.
The rally was flagged off by KS Alagiri in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk Office, and leaflets were distributed. Speaking then, KS Alagiri said, “This rally is very significant. GST should be reduced. The price of fuels should be brought under GST. Kerala State Congress executive Sanal was present here to commence the rally. Earlier, a bicycle rally was organised on behalf of the Congress party.
The GST was brought in by Congress. However, it was decided to bring in a minimum tax. The then opposition BJP had objected to this and now it has levied a tax of over 18 percent. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that Hindi is the official language in 75% of the states. The erstwhile Prime Minister Nehru brought in English as the official language with the support of the Hindi speaking people.
Pakistan was divided because of the similar imposition of language. Similarly, Amit Shah is keen to impose Hindi in India. The language policy should be clear. The economy has collapsed due to the lack of governance skills in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan problem and the Indian problem are different.
The reason for India's economic slowdown is the rise in petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices. Moreover, the Rs 26 lakh crore tax levy is also contributing to the economic downturn.” Thus he said.
