Congress faces 2nd worst ever defeat in Bihar

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 of the 243 seats. The BJP in the alliance won 89 seats, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) 85 seats, Lok Janshakti (Ram Vilas) 19 seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha 5 seats and Rashtriya Lok Morcha 4 seats.
On the other hand, the Rashtriya Janata Dal-Congress alliance suffered a heavy blow in this election. This alliance could only win 35 seats. Of these, Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal won 25 seats. The Congress party won 6 seats, the Marxist-Leninist 2, the IIP. Party 1, and the Marxist-Communist 1 seat.
The Congress party had given great importance to the Bihar elections. Rahul Gandhi had publicly alleged vote rigging. He had also shocked the nation by releasing data showing vote rigging in the Lok Sabha elections and the Haryana assembly elections. He also strongly opposed the Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll.
During the recent election campaign, a voter rights march was held in Bihar under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi against vote rigging. The Congress calculated that all this would give a positive turnout in the elections. But all this did not work out in the elections. The party, which contested in 61 seats, could win only 6 seats. Congress candidates lost their deposits in many places.
Earlier, the Congress had its worst performance in the Bihar elections in 2010, winning only 4 seats. After 15 years, it has suffered another humiliating defeat, winning 6 seats. The Congress, which had dominated Bihar by winning more than 100 seats till 1985, has rapidly lost its grip in Bihar.
Due to this, Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote rigging and opposition to the special amendment of the electoral roll have not resonated with the people of Bihar. He conducted a 15-day yatra there. Even in the places where that yatra took place, the Congress has faced defeat.
Even the pre- and post-election projections predicted that the Congress & RJD alliance would win at least 100 seats. But it managed to win only 35 seats. This means that the Congress party has recorded its second worst performance in the history of Bihar elections.
The big question is how and when will Congress recover from this crushing defeat?
