The minister inspected the site for the construction of the 184-foot-tall Murugan statue at the foot of the Maruthamalai Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple, the highest in Asia, and the site for the new Polytechnic College in Vadavalli, Maruthamalai.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “all the necessary works for the temples, such as the consecration of the temples, almshouses, tarpana mandapams, devotees' hostels, and cowsheds, are being carried out with priority. Accordingly, a few months ago, the immersion ceremony was held at the Arulmigu Pattiswaraswamy temple at a cost of Rs 1 crore. Following this, the temple's tharpana mandapam has been constructed on a grand scale, unlike anywhere else in Tamil Nadu, where 50 people can sit and perform tharpanam at a time. This tharpana mandapam has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 11 crore, including private contributions, the temple administration and the government's Public Works Department.”
