Corporation workers engaged in flood relief work post cyclone in Tiruvannamalai

Following the devastation caused by Cyclone Fengal, the Tiruvannamalai Municipal Corporation has undertaken flood relief operations across the city, focusing on affected low-lying areas.
360 personnel, including municipal officers and sanitation workers, have been deployed. Heavy machinery such as 3 JCBs, 2 dozers, 10 tree-cutting machines, 9 water pumps, and 15 tippers were used for clearing floodwaters and debris.
Water was pumped out from severely affected areas like Thamarai Nagar, Kilnathur, Gandhinagar, Annanagar, and Indiranagar to prevent residential flooding. Fallen trees in areas such as Tamarainagar and Gandhinagar were cleared using wood chippers and heavy equipment to restore traffic flow.
A landslide in VOC Nagar resulted in three houses being buried under mud. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and corporation staff carried out continuous rescue operations. Over 500 residents were evacuated and provided with shelter, food, and medical aid at Amaravati Murugayan High School. Damage assessments for roads and rainwater drains are underway in all 39 wards, with an estimated ₹29 crore needed for repairs.
Streets inundated with floodwater and debris were cleaned by municipal sanitation teams.
Relief camps will continue to provide uninterrupted food supplies through Amma restaurants. A quality monitoring committee has been set up for consistent supervision and assistance. Tiruvannamalai Municipal Commissioner Gandhi Raj is overseeing the relief work.
