At present, the Union Government is collecting a huge amount of money by setting up toll booths on the highways all over India. It is alleged that these toll booths which are run by private companies are collecting toll fee after the expiry of the contract period.
Twenty eight toll booths in Tamil Nadu will see a 10 to 30 percent toll hike on September 1.According to the information released in this regard, a proposal is being made to remove the toll booths and replace them with number plate reading cameras.Union Road Transport and Highways Minister NitinGadkari in an interview to private media saying that all toll booths on national highways will be removed and Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR) cameras will be installed.
It is said that through this the toll will be deducted directly from the account while traveling in the cab and if this method is successful then all customs booths in the country will be closed. It has been reported that a pilot of the scheme is underway and legislative amendments are being made to facilitate this transition to fine owners who do not pay tolls. Is it necessary to announce that there is such a plan, and in the meantime increase the toll fees? This only confuses motorists.
After the National Highway and State Highways Department, now the Union Government has started collecting tolls by setting up toll booths on the roads connecting different districts. Tamilnadu government should stop this immediately.
We pay all taxes in full at the time of vehicle purchase. However, collecting fees through toll booths is seen as a violation of the state’s rights.Collection of customs duty is nothing but deprivation of fundamental right of every Indian citizen!
