DEO reviews security at Salem counting center ahead of vote count

As the country gears up for the Lok Sabha vote count, Dr. R. Brindadevi, District Electoral Officer and District Collector, conducted a comprehensive inspection on Sunday at the counting center in the Government Engineerng College in Karuppur, where electronic voting machines from various polling centers under the Salem Lok Sabha constituency are securely stored. 

This inspection, held as part of checking protocols, aimed to ensure the integrity and safety of the voting process voting. Electronic voting machines from key polling centers including Salem North, Salem West, Salem South, Veerapandi, Edappadi, and Omalur Assembly Constituencies, all falling under the Salem Lok Sabha Constituency, have been sealed and secured at the reserve room within the Government Engineering College campus Karuppur . 

These inspection included not only physical security but also round-the-clock surveillance through CCTV cameras. Additionally, armed paratroopers and police personnel have been deployed to bolster security and deter any potential threats. Ensuring transparency, the counting center has provisions for candidates and their agents to monitor proceedings from a control room equipped with live feeds from the surveillance cameras.

 Furthermore, government officers and police involved in election duties maintain constant vigilance from this control room. With the vote count scheduled for June 4, 2024, officials have been directed to ensure the availability of essential amenities, including drinking water facilities, at the Salem and Karuppur Government Engineering College campuses, where the counting will take place.
