Devi Bharati selected for Sahithya Academy Award

For the year 2023 Sahitya Akademi Award was announced  for the novel 'Neervazhipaduum' written by Devi Bharati. 

The Sahitya Akademi Award is given to Indian writers by the Central government every year at the national level and state wise for outstanding literary creators such as novels and short stories.

 This year's Sahitya Akademi Award is announced for writer Devi Bharati (67)

 of Puduvenkaraiyam Palayam,  Nattakkadaiyur in Tirupur district.

The novel portrays the downfall of an individual's life in the background of the life of the slum dwellers known as Kudinashuvar, and the intimate relationship that the society has with him. Neerahip Paduum' – a novel written on Navidar's life cycle. 

Belonging to a simple family, the writer worked as clerk in government high schools including Sivagiri, Muthur, Thandampalayam. After voluntary retirement, he became a full-time literary writer and worked as an editor in literary magazines like Kalachuvadu.

Devi Bharati 

 made the biographies of ordinary people living as unknown voices in the society into his own modern works of writing. He has written many novels. He continues to write. His novels have been translated into other languages ​​including English and Malayalam. He has been writing since 1980 and his short story collection 'Pali' was first published. It was followed by Shadow written by him.

Novels like Nizhalin Thanimai, Natraj Maharaj and Noyyal portrayed the tragedies and realities of marginal people struggling for life as characters and gave it as a modern literary work. 

Tamil Nadu government announced Kalaignar's Gold Medal Award for Noyal novel. Devi Bharati's birth name is Rajasekaran. He was introduced to the world of Tamil literature in the 1980s through his epic works.

 His prose collection 'Puzhudhikkul  Sila Chitrangal' is a must read book for those who love politics. The language and characters used by Devi Bharati in the novel 'Shadow's Solitude' bring us closer to the truth in life.
