Distribution of tokens to avail Pongal gift hampers commenced

Distribution of tokens to avail Pongal gift hampers has commenced across the state on Tuesday. The hampers distribution would commence on January 9.’ Ahead of the Pongal festival, the state government has announced the distribution of gift hampers comprising a kilogram of rice and sugar each along with a sugarcane and cash worth Rs 1,000 to all the ration card holders. The government has allocated a sum of Rs 2,430 crore for the same, and the move would benefit 2.19 crore people.

To prevent people crowding the ration shops on the day of distribution, the government has been distributing tokens with the date and time of distribution printed on it through ration shop workers. The workers would visit the houses of the beneficiaries and distribute the tokens till January 8.The Chief Minister MK Stalin would be inaugurating the hamper distribution on January 9. On a given day, about 200 to 250 card holders could get the hampers at each ration shop.
