The district administration has recommended to the government to release water for irrigation from the Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) dam. Around 2.47 lakh acres in Erode, Tirupur and Karur districts get irrigation facility through the
Dam which is the main drinking water source of Erode district. In the 105-feet height dam, the water level of the dam was 83 feet in early July. Due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the dam, the water level of the dam has risen to 99.42 feet.
As of Saturday, the water flow into the dam was 2,384 cubic feet and the water level was 28.27 TMC. 900 cubic feet of water has been released in Bhavani river for irrigation and drinking water needs from the dam.
As the water level of the dam is nearing 100 feet, the farmers of the irrigated area have demanded to release water from the dam for irrigation through the Kizhbavani canal.
So, the district administration has recommended to the government to open water for irrigation. It brought cheer among ayacut ryots.
