The Coimbatore District Administration, City Police and UYIR Trust jointly launched ‘Naan Uyir Kavalan’, the city’s largest road safety campaign, along with its official logo, here on Saturday.
District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS inaugurated the initiative in the presence of M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, IAS, Commissioner of Coimbatore City Corporation; Dr. S. Rajasekaran, Managing Trustee of UYIR Trust; and S. Malarvizhi, Chairperson and Managing Trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions and Trustee of UYIR Trust, along with other dignitaries.
Over the years, UYIR Trust has partnered with the District Administration and Police in organizing awareness programs such as mass rallies, public competitions, hackathons, and the widely acclaimed ‘Uyir Kutty Cops’ program for school children. Through Uyir Clubs, students across schools and colleges have been empowered to act as road safety ambassadors in their communities.
With ‘Naan Uyir Kavalan’, the campaign now aims to reach a wider audience across Coimbatore. A mega pledge-taking program is being planned, targeting 10 lakh participants to commit to a specially drafted road safety pledge, reinforcing their resolve to follow traffic rules and save lives.
A week-long series of activities is scheduled for the first week of October 2025, engaging citizens across all age groups, with government departments, police, educational institutions, industries and social organizations participating. The objective is to create an accident-free week in Coimbatore and make the city a model for road safety.
The campaign seeks to inspire collective responsibility and community-driven action, transforming road safety into a meaningful public movement.
