District Collector takes part in Doctor’s day celebration in Tiruvannamalai

District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian took part in the Doctor's Day Festival and a seminar on organ donation organised by the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Tamil Forum at Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital Theater. The event was inaugurated by lighting a ceremonial lamp.

The District Collector extended his wishes, saying, “Happy Doctor's Day to all doctors. This day is celebrated in memory of Dr. BC Roy to honour the services rendered by doctors to society. People regard doctors as next to God because their dedicated service saves lives in times of health crises.”

He emphasised the importance of organ donation, highlighting that it allows organs to be transplanted to those in need, thus preserving lives. The Tamil Nadu government, through an official order, pays respect to organ donors. Tamil Nadu leads in organ donations in India. Referring to the lines in Manimekalai, the District Collector suggested that if organ donation had been common in those times, it would have been praised as “body organ gave, life gave.” He encouraged doctors to continue their invaluable service to society and announced the publication of the MBPS Tamil book.

Earlier in the day, a sapling was planted on the Government Medical College Hospital campus to raise awareness about organ donation. The District Collector visited an exhibition and a blood donation camp organised for this cause. He also interacted with college students regarding organ donation.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to participants of the blood donation camp, and mementos were presented to the doctors. The seminar was attended by Dr. Hariharan, Principal of Government Medical College Hospital; Dr. Malathi, Hospital Medical Superintendent, professors, students, and volunteers.
