Diwali shopping picks up in Coimbatore

People throng shops in Coimbatore on Sunday to buy new clothes and jewelery ahead of Diwali which falls on Oct 31.
There are many textile shops and jewelery shops in Opanakkara Road, Town Hall, Gandhipuram, Crosscut Rajaveedhi, etc.  Due to over crowd, police constantly instructed them to follow the traffic rules, not to park the vehicles on the roadside and park them on the parking lot. Apart from that, watch towers have been set up at various places in these areas and the police are carrying out continuous surveillance work to check thefts. Also, the public are advised to keep their belongings safe.
