DMK cancels centenary birthday celebrations

The DMK government has cancelled the public meeting that was scheduled to take place on the centenary birth anniversary of the former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday following the Coromandel train tragedy.
The party, in a statement, said, “Over 238 passengers have died after the Coromandel and Bengaluru- Howrah express trains derailed and hit a goods train at Bahanaga station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday.
The incident has shaken the entire country.
Since the party president believes that it would not be fair to kick-start the birthday celebration of a person who had devoted his life for the public, on the day when public are grieving, all the cadres were advised to lay garland to the portrait of Karunanidhi and pay tribute to the victims of the train accident.
All other events and public meeting that were scheduled to take place on Saturday were cancelled.
The date will be announced later.”
