Dr. Khalieraaj Naidu, Director of the National Cyber Security Research Council, delivered a keynote speech at the South Asia Summit on Education for Peace at the United Nations Conference Centre in Thailand. He emphasised the transformative power of education in fostering peace, bridging cultural gaps, and eliminating prejudice.
"Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of understanding, empathy, and equality," Dr. Khalieraaj stated. He highlighted education’s role in promoting cultural awareness, reducing inequalities, and empowering marginalized groups, particularly women and youth. By fostering respect for diverse perspectives, education helps dissolve biases and build harmonious communities.
He also stressed the importance of digital literacy in today’s world, where misinformation, online harassment, and cyber threats pose significant challenges. Teaching young people to navigate the digital space safely and responsibly, he noted, is crucial to ensuring that technology serves as a force for peace rather than division.
Additionally, he underscored the need for critical thinking and conflict resolution skills in education, enabling individuals to engage in constructive dialogue and resolve disputes without aggression. He called for inclusive learning environments that empower individuals to contribute positively to society.
Dr. Khalieraaj concluded by urging global leaders to prioritize education for peace, both in traditional classrooms and digital spaces ensuring that future generations are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to create a more just and peaceful world.
