Deputy speaker of the state assembly K Pitchandi on Wednesday inaugurated a workshop about the Tamil Nadu Irrigation Agriculture Modernization Project (TNIAMP) at a private hall in the city in the presence of district collector K Tharpagaraj.
Suggestions related to production and cultivation technology development were given to farmers at the workshop. Pitchandi said that a separate agriculture budget has been proposed at the assembly for the welfare of farmers. He insisted farmers on using drip irrigation systems, and modern technologies to get more production with less water use.
He also spoke about government subsidies available for farmers, and urged the farmers to make use of the schemes.
Joint director of agriculture department Kannagi, deputy director (Agribusiness) Shemila Jayanthi, assistant director of Animal Husbandry department Jayakumar, personal assistant to collector (agriculture) Malarvizhi, and others attended the event.
