The Election Commission of India (ECI) to hold a meeting with recognized political parties to discuss the linking of voter identity cards with Aadhaar cards.

The works to link voter IDs with Aadhaars are set to commence from August 1 across the country and the ECI has directed the state election commissions to complete the works by March 31, 2023. The application to link the cards - form ‘6B’ - would be available from August 1.

Commencing its campaign, ECI to hold a discussion with the representatives of recognized political parties in Chennai on August 1 and the meeting would be presided over by Satyabrata Sahoo, chief electoral officer. At the district level, the meeting would be conducted by district level officials at the collector’s offices.

As there is a confusion as to who would participate representing the AIADMK party, an election officer said that they had followed due procedures and sent a letter to all the recognised political parties. “We have sent a letter to AIADMK, as well,” he added.
