'Educated youth should share good ideas with govt'

Housing Minister S Muthuswamy appealed to  the educated youths to share good ideas to improve the government administration.  Presenting degree certificates to over 300 students at the 8th graduation day of Surya Engineering College, Mettukadai, Erode on Sunday, he said that nearly 40 years back only 2900 students were studying engineering per year. 

There were very few engineering colleges at that time. If you go to a town, you can count the number of people who have studied engineering.  But, today  two and a half lakh people are studying engineering every year.Now, the opportunity available to students is very big.  In 1981 IRT Engineering College was started by Tamilnadu Government Transport Corporation.

Then two years later, IRT medical college was started. It was very difficult to start a new college at that time.  After that many private colleges have sprung up.  Today, large number of engineering graduates are coming up every year.  The Chief Minister is encouraging the industrial sector so that all of them can get jobs. While signing new MoUs with the industrial sector, he has emphasized that the local people should be given priority in employment.

He has given 85 projects for the development of Erode district. If engineering graduates, like you, offer good suggestions to the government, the people will also get benefit, he added.
