After summer vacation, schools reopened for classes VI to XII across the state on Monday.
Following the completion of annual examinations for the academic year 2022-23, schools were closed for summer holidays in April.
The exam results were also declared during the holidays.
Earlier, the school education department has announced the schools would be reopened for students in classes between VI and XII on June 1 and for classes between I and V on June 5.
The department then postponed the reopening date to June 7 due to sudden rise in temperature.
As the temperature crossed 100 degree celsius, the school reopening date was postponed for the second time for classes between VI and XII to June 12 and for classes between I and V to June 14.
As per the announcement, the schools reopened across the state on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, the education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi minister said, “Schools were reopened for classes between VI and XII on Monday after summer vacation.
School reopening dates were postponed due to rise in temperature.
I wish all the students to perform well in this academic year. Steps were taken to distribute books, uniform dresses and footwear to students of all government and government aided students across the state.”
Teachers and head masters of schools welcomed the students at their school premises.
Students were engaged in preparatory activities on the first day and they took a pledge to eradicate child labour system at 11 am. To compensate the loss in working works, the department announced that the schools would function on Saturdays.
The minister released a message to the students. In the statement, he said, “I congratulate the teachers who are going to guide the students stepping into the current academic year.
Gandhiji said that true education empowers body and soul of the students. Periyar said education should eradicate ignorance and superficial beliefs.
Anna said that education would help us to walk straight in the world that is filled with competition and jealousy.
Karunanidhi said that thousand lamps could be lit with a single candle.”
He said that the state government would always support teachers and students and wished them all the best.
Min welcome students by distributing sweets

School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi welcomed the students by distributing bouquets and chocolates at government girls school at Virugambakkam in the city.
Teachers welcomed students by showering flower petals at Sandaipettai middle school.
In Pudukottai and Erode, teachers distributed roses to students at several schools.
One of the students said that she was happy that her school was reopened as she likes being at the school with teachers and her friends.
