Electricity tariff hike will not hit people: Minister

Housing Minister S Muthuswamy said that electricity tariff hike will not affect people much. He flagged off the procession of chess Olympiad Torch bearing students rally at Erode District Collectorate on Tuesday. About 188 countries are participating in the event from July 28 to August 10 at Mamallapuram. 

Around 2000 sportspersons are participating in this which is a step to promote the entire sports sector. In Erode Chikkaiya Naykar College campus, a huge indoor sports stadium is to be constructed in around 40 acres. 

Therefore, the plan of constructing a synthetic track project at VOC Stadium, Erode is going to be shifted there. Basic facilities for various sports will be established in the indoor sports stadium. Yesterday, AIADMK held protest at Tamil Nadu against government. One cannot expect it could praise the government.  

Hike in electricity tariff will not affect the people much. The Minister of Electricity has already explained it to the people who know the extent of the financial condition of the government and that is why the house tax has also been increased. 

Even though there have been complaints that drinking water is not available in Erode, this is due to the previous AIADMK government's bunglings in implementing Smart City, UGD,  and Uratchikottai Water Project. There are various deficiencies in the water project in Erode. 

We are investigating and taking action to remove the defects in the projects'' he said. District Collector Krishnan Unni, SP Sasimohan, Anthiyur MLA Venkatachalam, District Revenue Officer Santoshini Chandra, District Sports Officer Satish Kumar and many others participated in the event.
