Emotional Farewell as Bengaluru’s Beloved Bell Ringer Retires After 38 Years

A heartwarming moment unfolded at the century-old Bishop Cotton Girls’ School in Bengaluru, where staff and students bid an emotional farewell to Das, the school’s beloved bell ringer, who retired after 38 years of service.

For nearly four decades, 60-year-old Das faithfully rang the traditional brass bell that marked every class period — a routine that continued even after the school introduced electric bells. Known for his punctuality and dedication, Das became an inseparable part of the school’s daily rhythm.

On his final working day last Friday, Das rang the bell for the last time at 4 p.m. As the familiar sound echoed through the campus, students and teachers gathered around him, cheering and applauding to honor his years of service.

A video capturing the touching moment has gone viral on social media. Former student Ami Kutty, who shared the clip on Instagram, wrote, “Das Uncle has been ringing the school bell for 38 years. Every morning, his bell marked the start of our classes, and every evening, it signaled our freedom. When he rang it for the last time, his eyes were filled with tears.”

The video has garnered over 40 million views and continues to move audiences online, celebrating the humble man whose simple act defined generations of school memories.
