Ernakulam – Bengaluru intercity express upgraded with LHB coaches

The Ernakulam – Bengaluru – Ernakulam intercity express trains have been upgraded with LHB coaches, and it will be operated with LHB coaches from Friday. The train runs via Coimbatore, Salem and Dharmapuri.  
The trains (12678 and 12677) will have two AC chair cars, 11 second class chair cars, one AC pantry car, four general second class, one luggage-cum-brake van with accommodation for the differently-abled and one power car.
These coaches can be operated at higher speeds and have a higher passenger capacity than the conventional coaches. 
They are lighter as compared to conventional coaches; have aesthetically superior interiors and require less maintenance. Each coach also has an advanced pneumatic disc brake system for efficient braking at higher speeds and modular interiors. LHB coaches have fire retardant materials for furnishing, and the air-conditioning system of these coaches is of higher capacity.
