Of 21 urban health and wellness centers allotted to Erode Corporation, 17 were opened by the CM MK Stalin through video conference on Tuesday evening.
Corporation health officials said the CM inaugurated 500 centres out of 708 centres in the state.
The remaining would be opened shortly. Each centre was built at a cost of Rs 25 lakh.
Of the cost and the salary and administrative expenses, the share of the Central and State governments would be at the ratio of 75:25.
The Municipal Corporation and Municipality where the centre is located would bear maintenance cost.
The drugs would be got from the TN Medical Services Corporation. Each centre will have 1 doctor, 1 nurse, 1 health inspector and assistant.
The district health society select them for consolidated pay.
The centres would act as disease prevention centres for minor ailments and they would send people for treatment to the nearby hospitals only.
Erode corporation already has 10 primary health centres which recorded nearly 400 deliveries per year.
Different kind of specialists were outsourced daily in the evening for Gandhiji Road centre to treat patients of various diseases.
In the district health society meeting, held recently, the corporation sought mobile medical units for the City. Such demands of all local bodies would be compiled and sent to the Centre by the state government.
Stringent norms were made by the SC and Animal Welfare Board in exercising birth control measures for stray dogs.
So, the Corporation faces problems. Now, an NGO-Gosala-came forward to do that work and applied for the permission of the Board, health officers said.
