Erode girl tops in medical admission rank list

Erode student V. Devadarshini, who topped the rank list for government school students in medical admission, said that after completing her medical studies, she would like to serve in rural areas. Health Minister M. Subramanian released the rank list for MBBS, BDS medical courses on Monday. 


Out of the 7.5 percent seat allocation for government school students, 454 MBBS and 104 BDS seats have been allocated (total 558 seats). Devadashini, a student of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Kaundapadi, Erode District, has topped the rank list with 518 marks. 


Devadarshini is the second daughter of the Veluchami-Koteswari couple of Pommanpatti near Kaundapadi. She completed plus 2 marks last year. After failing in NEET exam last year, she received training from a private coaching center and scored 518 marks in NEET exam this year. 

Devadarshini, who topped the 7.5 percent quota for government school students in medical education, said: Our family has its roots in weaving. After my father passed away, my mother Koteswari, who worked as an anganwadi assistant, wanted me to become a doctor. I want to study medicine in Chennai Medical College. As I was born and brought up in a rural area, after completing MBBS, I want to provide medical services to the people of our area.
