The monthly farmers' grievance day meeting was held on Friday at the Erode Collector's Office under the chairmanship of District Collector H. Krishnanunni.During the meeting, the representatives of the farmers' unions expressed their demands. The Collector said the normal annual rainfall of Erode district is 733.44 mm and till date 243.61 mm were received.
The water level of Bhavani Sagar Dam is 82.21 feet and the water reserve is 16.88 TMC. In the district, in the month of April, 89 hectares of agricultural crops and 26 hectares of horticultural crops have been cultivated in summer. Currently, 160 metric tonnes of paddy seeds, 35 metric tonnes of pulses, 6 metric tonnes of pulses and 8.8 metric tonnes of oilseeds are in stock for distribution to ryots in agricultural extension centers. Chemical fertilizers including urea 2660 metric tons, DAP 2489 metric tons, potash 1338 metric tons and Complex 5933 MT are in stock.
Adequate fertilisers are available for the current season. The Kalaignar All Village Integrated Agricultural Development Project was launched by the Chief Minister at the state level through video conference on May 23. Accordingly, Rs. 35,59,354 / - worth welfare assistance has been provided to 13,724 beneficiaries in 60 Grama Panchayats selected for implementation of the scheme in the District during the year 2021-22.
As water has been released from the Bhavani Sagar Dam to the Thadappally Arakkankottai ayacut for the cultivation of Kuruvai paddy crop, required quantity of paddy seed was distributed in the area and other inputs are also kept in reserve at the Agri Offices in the area, he added.
