Health department officials on Sunday 'sealed' Erode Sudha Hospital as per Madras High Court order.
As the hospital collected ovum from a 16-year-old minor girl in Erode, the health department ordered to seal the Hospital on July 15.
A 15-day grace period has been given to transfer patients undergoing treatment at the hospital to other hospitals. When the hospital appealed to the Madras High Court, the court ordered to remove the seal placed on the scans of the hospital. The health department appealed against this. The 3 member bench led by the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court confirmed the government order to seal the hospital. In protest against this, more than 800 doctors working in more than 250 private hospitals in the district went on strike on Saturday on behalf of the Erode branch of the IMA.
But, the officials led by the Joint Director of the Health Department, Prema Kumari, sealed the 10 scan machines of the Hospital on Saturday night. Of the 94 patients treated in the hospital, 46 initially were transferred to other hospitals. The remaining 48 were admitted to other hospitals on Sunday evening. Following this, the officials immediately closed the entire hospital and 'sealed' it on Sunday.
