Ex-minister's plea to give housesite pattas to affected people in Perundurai

Former Minister Thopu Venkatachalam petitioned the Erode District Collector to grant patta to about 150 families in Tamil Nagar next to Erode Perundurai Slatterpuram. He said: During the British period, many places in Perundurai region were given as Panchami lands for SCs. Condition supplied with the officials pattas. Accordingly they can sell those lands to other SCs. The landowners sold the area to others. Some people have bought 2 cents to 3 cents of land and built houses. That is how Tamil Nagar was formed. In the previous Jayalalithaa regime, people who had been living for many years were given a patta under the legal provision of land regularization and one time settlement. After that some non SCs who bought lands of 6 acres, 7 acres, 5 acres in the same area got pattas violating the norms.

Issuance of Patta for such lands were prohibited one. So I complained about this to Chief Chief Secretary, Chennai. After that, the government ordered the district collector to cancel the licenses issued illegally. But along with such pattas, pattas issued to residents of Tamil Nagar were also canceled during the last period of AIADMK regime. But 150 families living in Tamil Nagar were once granted the Patta under the rule of one time regularization. They have own small plots and because of cancellation of their patras it has become very difficult for them to build houses or take loans. Therefore, taking this into consideration, a petition has been submitted to issue the cancelled pattas to them, he said.
