Excess water released from Bhavanisagar Dam in Bhavani river

The Nilgiris, the catchment area of ​​the Bhavanisagar dam, has been experiencing widespread rainfall for over a month. Similarly, there is widespread rain in Bhavanisagar Dam and its surrounding areas. Due to this, the flow of water to Bhavanisagar Dam continued to increase. 


As a result, the water level in the dam reached 101 feet three days ago. Water level reached 102 feet for the 22nd time yesterday morning. Due to this, 6,772 cubic feet of water that came to the dam was being discharged from the dam in the Bhavani river.


Due to this, the district administration has already issued a flood alert to the people through loudspeakers. Due to the release of water upto 20000 cusecs from the  dam, there has been flooding in Bhavani riverside areas including Thottampalayam, Sathyamangalam, Atru Palam, Kumarapalayam, Fatima Nagar, Ariyapampalayam. River banks from Bhavanisagar Dam to Bhavani Kooduthurai have also been flooded. 

The Public Works and the Revenue Departments took steps to accommodate the people living in the river bank area in safe places.


It is noted that due to the water released from the Mettur Dam, there has already been flooding on the banks of the Cauvery River in Bhavani area.
