Families of three who died while cleaning septic tank, receive aid

The chairman of state commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Justice S Thamizhvanan handed over a compensation of 6 lakh each to the families of three daily wage labourers who died of suffocation while cleaning a septic tank at the workers' quarters of a dyeing factory near Palladam in Tirupur on May 20.


During the meeting, Justice Tamizhvanan emphasized that the Commission regularly visits various districts to directly engage with members of the Adi Dravidar and tribal communities, assess their needs, receive petitions, and ensure that required facilities and welfare measures are provided effectively.
He also met the family members of three sanitary workers who died while cleaning a sewage tank in Karaipudur in the district, and handed over cheques of Rs 6 lakh each, as the first installment of the total Rs 12 lakh compensation per family sanctioned by the state government.


Members of the commission Selvakumar, Anandaraja, Ponthoz, and Rekha Priyadharshini, district collector Christuraj, sanitary workers welfare board chairman Govindaraj, police commissioner Rajendran, SP Yadav Krish Ashok, corporation commissioner Ramamoorthy, district revenue officer Karthikeyan, revenue divisional officer Mohanasundaram, district SC/ST welfare officer Pushpa Devi, and others were present at the meeting.
