Farmer dies by suicide- Farmers’ Union condemns GAIL project

The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Union has demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government should issue an order to stop the installation of gas pipelines.

In a statement, General Secretary Shanmugam said: “Farmers were protesting against the installation of gas pipelines by GAIL on farmlands.

Pipes laid in the fields were also disposed of. Now, in order to implement the scheme, the GAIL management is trying to install pipelines on the lands owned by the farmers without their consent. Farmers are fighting against this.

In this situation, the public has joined the struggle today when the authorities forcibly installed a pipe on 64 cents of land owned by Ganesan (age 42), a poor farmer from Kariyappanalli village, Pennagaram circle, Dharmapuri district.

Farmer Ganesan has died by suicide by hanging himself at his house. The Gail administration should be held responsible for the death of farmer Ganesan. The Tamil Nadu government should intervene in this issue and order a complete halt to the installation of the gas pipeline. Gail management should pay Rs 50 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased farmer Ganesan.

The government should provide employment to one member of the family. The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association demands that the Chief Minister clarify to the farmers the position of the Government of Tamil Nadu on the issue of implementation of projects on arable lands against the wishes of the farmers. ”
