FASTag annual pass brings relief to travellers

FASTag annual pass brings relief to travellers

The union government has been collecting crores of rupees every day from toll booths operated on highways across the country. Every vehicle using the highways needs to pay a toll using the FASTag card. Though the system has brought the time consumption at toll booths, it has also been increasing the revenue for the government.
Highway tolls have been a common issue for almost everyone using the national highways. The union government has revised the toll tariff multiple times in the last few years, and it has become a financial burden for many.
Now, the recent toll tariff announcement has brought relief to the public. As per it, if a passenger makes a one-time of Rs 3,000, their vehicle can travel on all national highways at free of cost for a year or upto 200 trips. However, it is applicable only for cars, jeeps and vans used for personal purposes, and not for commercial vehicles.
This announcement will ease the financial burden and concerns of people making frequent trips between cities. For instance, if a family travels on national highways for 15-20 times a month, the toll fee will easily cross Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 by the end of a year. But now, they need to pay only 3,000. Since all the toll booths are constantly monitored with CCTVs, misuses can also be prevented.
Without a doubt, it will assist in cost reduction and encourage the public to use national highways rather than using shortcuts. Every time there is a raise in toll fees, people oppose it by protesting. Now the government has significantly reduced the fee, even though it will bring a revenue loss to them. Heartfelt thanks to the union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
