Firecracker factory unit explosion in Salem District: One Dead, two Injured

Just few days after a major explosion in Sivikasi on May 9 that claimed the lives of about ten people, a devastating explosion occurred on Thursday evening at a firecracker unit in the Kadambur Arsan Koil Forest area,  under the the Gengavalli Police Station jurisdiction. One person died and two others were injured in the explosion.
The incident occurred at 4:00 PM on Thursday according to preliminary reports of the police. 
The explosion claimed the life of Dhanasekaran, a 40-year-old worker from Kovilmedu. 
The blast was so powerful that Dhanasekaran was thrown 100 feet away, and his body was dismembered. 
The entire building was obliterated in the explosion. Two other workers, Sandhya and Vijaya, both aged 30 were injured when concrete debris from the explosion struck a neighboring building. They have been admitted to Attur Government Hospital for treatment. 
Revenue Divisonal Officer, Attur, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Attur, Police Inspector of Veeraganur Police Station, Attur, Thasildhar,Gengavalli Taluk arrived at the scene to organise emergency response and conduct an investigation. 
The factory owner, identified as Mr. Mani, reported that the explosion occurred when Dhanasekaran was handling 3 kg of potassium nitrate, aluminum powder, and sulfur powder in the building. 
According to preliminary investigations, the factory’s license had expired on March 31, 2024. Although an application for license renewal had been submitted, it was still pending approval in the District Collector's office at the time of the accident. 
The deceased's body has been transported to Attur Government Hospital. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess adherence tosafety rules at the factory.
